Megan Makar is a CPA and an audit manager at BNKJ specializing in employee benefit plan audits. She has been with the firm for nearly 10 years. She has 11 years experience providing assurance, accounting, tax and financial services to public and privately held businesses, including retirement plan audits as well as financial statement audits.
Megan is involved in running the employee benefit plan audit practice at BNKJ by assisting and coordinating training for BNKJ employee benefit plan audit team. She also runs numerous audits of plans with 15,000 participants and greater, and with assets in excess of a billion dollars. She has particular experience auditing plans that require an 11-K filing.
Megan’s clients work in various industries, including manufacturing, real estate, distribution, transportation and professional and management service firms.
Megan believes there is no magic formula or “one good answer” when it comes to any plan audit. She works with clients on an individual basis when planning and executing the audit, considering the clients resources and time limitations as well as exposure to risk and fiduciary responsibility as related to the plan.
A Georgia native, Megan earned her undergraduate degree, a double major in accounting and finance, at Kennesaw State University. She is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA), the Atlanta Chapter of American Society of Pension Professionals Actuaries (ASPPA), and the Worldwide Employee Benefits Network (WEB).
